The event will feature a music concert, an art festival, traditional games, a culinary festival as well as ecological activities. This includes a planting 1,000 mangrove seeds and a beach cleanup.
"Besides that, we have creative competitions for cooking, video blogs, selfies, photography, Betawi traditional dances, coloring and boat decorating. There will also be a decorated bicycles parade. Dua Mahadewi [a female music duo] is also set to perform," Esthy Reko Astuti, deputy of tourism development at the ministry said.
The Thousand Islands are among the ministry's top priority destinations. The ministry also hopes to boost foreign tourist visits which have so far been on the rise: last year, there were 24,000 tourists compared to 10,000 the year prior.
"The festival aims to introduce the Thousand Islands as a leading marine destination to both local and international tourists," Esthy said.
She explained that the ministry is also targeting investors who want to boost marine tourism.
"We will have new things to offer, ranging from cultural tours, shopping spots, nature and sports activities, research and many others that can developed in a sustainable manner to increase the business value in Tidung Island so it becomes the main tourist attraction in the Thousand Islands for local and international tourists," Esthy said.
